At Laty, we mindfully create timeless products for your everyday life. Since our philosophy and mission are based in the respect of the environment, we integrate factors or elements that make it so, such as the use of recycled or upcycled materials and organic fabrics, reduction of packaging, etc. When we started the development of the BHUMI MAT, we wanted to go on a step further, and integrate the principle of circular economy.

Do you know what is circular economy ?

A circular economy is an industrial system that is restorative or regenerative by intention and design. It replaces the end-of-life concept with restoration, shifts towards the use of renewable energy, eliminates the use of toxic chemicals, which impair reuse and return to the biosphere, and aims for the elimination of waste through the superior design of materials, products, systems and business models.

First, at its core, a circular economy aims to design out waste. Waste does not exist: products are designed and optimized for a cycle of disassembly and reuse.

Resources are used for as long as possible, extract the maximum value from them whilst in use, then recover and regenerate products and materials at the end of each service life.

The term was first used in the late 80’s by two British environmental economists, as they first saw that the traditional open economy was treating the environment as a giant waste.

In short, we call circular economy an economic system aimed at reducing waste and using the resources in a conscious way. Japaneses call the concept of wasting something without having made use of its potential in full Mottainai. The expression "Mottainai!" can be uttered alone as an exclamation when something useful, such as food or time, is wasted, meaning roughly "what a waste!"

We’ve been working hard to find the best providers for a green product that will last a lifetime !

The BHUMI MAT is designed with the principle of the circular economy in mind. Made with cork and natural rubber, the BHUMI is a non-toxic, long-lasting and recyclable yoga mat. Cork is one of the most sustainable materials existing in the world, as it comesfrom the bark of the cork oak trees which regenerates naturallythroughout its life. It takes 7-9 years for the bark to regenerate.

To take it one step further,we are working on a take back program. We will partner with yoga studios that will be willing to collect old yoga mats, the ones that are still in good shape will go to charity and different associations who need it.

If you are interested in helping out by creating a centre in your hometown, please contact us, we’d love to see as many yoga mats reused for a good purpose instead of seeing them in the landfill.

As a buyer, you will get a discount to get a new BHUMI Mat when you trade in your old mat
